Bachelor #3

At the outset, let me note that I am currently the most optimistic about this latest gentleman, Trois. I will try to be reasonably objective, however. (But he gets away with a lot in this scenario because he's hot. And shares most of my name.)

We had our first date on Monday night. After a bunch of messages back and forth, he finally asked me out! But I didn't think about when I arrived at the restaurant how we should have exchanged phone numbers so we could text on arrival. I was early, he hadn't made a reservation, but thankfully the place was sparsely populated so I chose to wait at the bar. He ran about 10 minutes late, which I believe is largely due to his assuming that it would be easy to find a parking spot on a Monday night.

When Trois did arrive, he saw me pretty quickly and came over to say hello. We got a table and sat down and started talking - the waiter was a little exasperated because he kept coming by to check on us but we were clearly not looking at the menus AT ALL. The waiter suggested that when we were ready to order that we could just flip a menu upside down as a non-verbal cue, but then forgot and came back to bother us 5 minutes later anyway. Ridiculous.

Trois is a bit of a foodie and likes to cook things, particularly seafood. We talked a lot about traveling and some of the weird things that have happened to us abroad. Apparently he's going to Sweden to visit a friend this March - hooray for international friends! We also talked about our various jobs - I described some of the stuff I do at work, he described some of the stuff he does while freelancing (this smart young man has a day job with Apple to pay the bills). Trois is a 3-D graphic designer in his spare time. Interesting stuff.

He strikes me as a very grounded guy. He's got a working knowledge of German (yes, I find this attractive) and can make me laugh (we were exchanging stories about our ridiculousness as kids/teenagers). I've got a good feeling that there aren't any "glory days" that need to be relived, that this guy might be a well-rounded person I can both teach and learn from. Okay, and it doesn't hurt at all that he's handsome. And travels (not just wants to, does). And has a similar taste in music. And grew up in a relatively small town.

So we stayed there talking until he got a phone call from some guy he was collaborating on a project with - at that point it was 10:00 and we were the only people left in the restaurant. We called it a night and went home - as we were leaving the restaurant he asked when I was free again! (The next night I'm off work is Saturday, so I said so.) The plan is more dinner, place to be determined.

In the hopes of being objective, I should document two things that may or may not have any bearing on the situation, but I may regret if I don't take note now: firstly, that we split the check. It wasn't horribly expensive, but I offered and he accepted. Secondly, there was no goodnight hug or kiss post-date. Not that that is a bad thing, but interesting to note as it differs from my dates with Un and Deux.

We'll see where this one goes....
