In case you were curious, the deal went through. Let's recap the drama:
-First house choice overwhelmingly and awkwardly despised by parents
-Current house's then-owner and title-holder lives in Romania, her son (also Romanian) lives in California
-House's owner/title-holder's son is using his power of attorney to sell the house
-Title company threatens to not issue title on house because it doesn't have an original copy of the power of attorney document
-My lender sticks its head up its butt for the duration of the transaction, emails and phone calls are rarely returned, deadlines are rarely met
-My lender decides that a first appraisal that came in $3,000 under the purchase price needed to be "redone" without my consent, coming up with an appalling appraisal of $11,000 under.
-Insurance company lies to me about the status of my coverage, leaves me scrambling for auto title and other drama the day before my brother's wedding
-(Tuesday night before closing) "Seller" discovers that his power of attorney won't allow him to get the money from the purchase in his name, also won't allow him to cash the check. Closing on the next day becomes questionable.
But now it is mine, and I officially declare the drama OVER. (Or so I hope.) Large furniture moving day is the 10th, and it'll probably be a small affair. A date hasn't been set for house-warming, but it'll likely be mid-June.
Hmm. So now I have a house.
