This is going to be based entirely on order of dates had, not by some ranking system. Time will be my ranking system. But numbers will work in lieu of names to preserve some shred of anonymity (Un, Deux, Trois, Quatre?)
The first gentleman (Un) had to send me two messages to get a response - I was hesitant after seeing on his profile that a) under drinking, he responded "Often (>3 times a week)" and seeing b) his picture of two very large dogs [Great Dane + Weimeraner] as part of his profile. But he was persistant, so I responded and within a very short time (2 days, maybe?) he asked me on a date.
A real date. Keep in mind that at this point I hadn't been on a date since breaking up with that idiot I used to be with, so I was nervous and excited all at the same time. So he gets points for being the icebreaker.
To clarify the above: I asked point blank in my initial response message about the drinking thing. I have no desire to be with anyone still trying to relive their "college glory days" with binge drinking and exploits of how much ____ they can handle. His response was perfectly reasonable, that he is comfortable having a glass of wine or a beer with a meal several times a week, so he was being honest. No "college glory days" to be concerned about. (Although he does have the setup to make his own microbrews.)
We met up at NoRTH (yay!) - I got there first and ended up stealing a reservation from someone else that shared the first name as Un (since I didn't know his last name). It turns out that he somehow made reservations for us at a NoRTH restaurant in a completely different town. Nice going, Un. Anyway, we had some very pleasant conversation, a lot of personal stuff like where we grew up and how we got to where we are now. We shared some family stories and travel stories (Un has lived in London and Japan). We probably stayed talking for a good 3 hours.
It was fucking FREEZING outside that night. So we tried walking around the Domain but it was so frigid and everything was closed so we decided to call it a night - after he'd asked about my future time-off plans. (Un briefly tried looking up coffee places that were open without success.) Nice pleasant (chaste) kiss and off to our own separate ways. (We also happen to live in the same general area of town.)
He was very enthusiastic about the whole deal. That night we became facebook friends and started using the facebook chat app instead of the dating website's messaging system. Reminded me of other relationships that I'd been in where the guy was super-eager and we had had a lot of fun. I took that as a good sign. I'd rather not have to question how someone really feels about me because he's not saying anything.
The next morning I got a message from Deux, asking me out. Of course I said yes!
