So I made it back from Europe with a bad case of lazy. It's only just recently turned to midnight, and I've been wanting to go home for 4 hours already (taking into consideration that I started at 9). Maybe it's the fact that I've had an intense vacation, or maybe it's the fact that things are much more fun at home than they are at work these days.
Us three girls had a great time, but it was definitely different than what I was used to. There was a ton of shopping, a lot of picture taking (of ourselves), and lots of focus on the food. I was disappointed in Pisa because we only had 30 minutes to be there and all that happened was shopping and a handful of pictures of the tower. Rome was beautiful and surreal. Palermo (Sicily) was filled with overly horny Italian waiters. Nice and Eze (France) were very picturesque but bordering on Eurotrashy. Barcelona was extremely chill and people were very friendly. Florence had an awesome cathedral on par with Westminster Abbey (except you could take pictures legally). Pompeii was weird in the fact that you could touch almost everything in the whole damn place - well, walls were really all that were left.
The cruise itself was filled with a lot of retired and overly-priveleged white people. We mostly kept to ourselves and drank and took lots of naps (we did a lot of excursions that left the boat at around 7 AM and lasted for 8-10 hours, so we were legitimately tired). We took a lot of silly pictures and laughed a bunch. All in all it was a great time.
Happily things were grand when I got home - BM was almost as excited to see me as I was to see him. My housemates came up and made the house look more like a real house and less like an explosion of boxes. And I got to go to Sea World (for the first time ever!) with BM and his family. Good times - his family is definitely fun to hang around with and they definitely seem like the adventurous type. (I've been warned from several sources that they are aces at board and card games, too.) *Grins*
The worst part about coming home (aside from having to work) is going to grocery stores. I was completely out of anything edible that would do for my work-lunch, so I had to go and re-acclimate myself to the pre-packaged plasticized ripened-in-store-not-on-the-source food that we've gotten so used to buying at HEBs all over the world. Maybe with the price of gas skyrocketing, we'll get back to more small farm-fresh goods, but I won't hold my breath. I'll just plant a garden this next spring.
