Moving day...

...is probably going to be the 4th of May, if I can swing it. I haven't figured out the specifics yet, but most of it is going to involve me with a U-Haul. There are only 9 things in my apartment that I can't move myself (mostly due to awkwardness and size), but I'll have to ask for help on those. I'm thinking that I'll just move everything else and then maybe ask some favors later in the month? I dunno.

Of course, leave it to me to pick a house with attached drama. There's been a little bit of uncertainty over the ownership these past few weeks. See, the person who owns the house and holds the title lives in Romania. She is a Romanian. I guess she was planning on living here in Austin, but plans fell through? and they got stuck with an empty house. In order to sell it she gave her power of attorney to her son, also Romanian, who is currently living in California. (Supposedly neither party is able to leave the area in which they are currently residing, and neither one has much grasp of English). The title company was up in arms because they needed an original documentation of the power-of-attorney. Without it they wouldn't give me title and I wouldn't get the house. Thus far the situation seems to be cleared up.

I'm still not going to celebrate until the keys are in my hands. Apparently the Romanian woman can revoke her son's power of attorney on the closing date if she wants to. At that point, though, I would have cause to sue (which, heaven help me, I don't want) for damages. It's such a pretty house.

I also pulled a heck of a feat this weekend - I worked a night shift and then traveled down to SA for Kel's family bridal shower. 24+ hours without sleep!! I haven't done that kind of thing ever in my life. It was a fun shower, and I got to see (if not meet due to my obvious sluggishness) a whole slew of aunts and cousins of Kel's. It was casual and very well-executed. One of Kel's aunts got an idea to use black-and-white Mollies (fish) for centerpieces, and now Kel has some aquarium companions that conveniently match part of her color scheme!

Elsewise, I've decided that I've gotten far too whiny at work, and need to step back a bit from it. I think it's been brought on by the difficulty of scheduling with one of our girls gone - the past two months of scheduling have made me feel very much screwed over, particularly in view of the fact that somebody seems to think that working every Saturday (but not Sunday) constitutes working "every other weekend". And that I should be the only one to be thus boned. Luckily, that won't last. Our girl in training is supposed to be back in a few weeks, and rumor has it that someone new is coming to nights (supposedly arriving for training at Dell within 2 weeks). I can only hope. There's also the point that I really despise not being alerted when there's something pending (like a specimen stuck in a micro bucket or tossed on a countertop) and delaying specimen testing for no good reason. It's not like it's hard to give a heads-up.

And I've got to work on being too self-critical. Er...less whiny? Ha ha ha ha.
